Daily affirmations for when you feel a little all over the place

Credit to Louise L Hay – I can across her website today and I felt utterly inspired. Affirmations are big part of my life and I rely on them heavily. When I found her website and her work surrounding affirmations,  I just had to write my own post.

Can you remember the last time you told yourself how proud you are of yourself? What about how much you love your life? Or how pretty you look in your new dress? However, I imagine you can remember the last time you criticized yourself for being late to work, or how you didn’t tick enough off of your to-do list? Or the last time you stressed about being stressed? Right?

“Remember, you have been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.” – Louise L Hay

Affirmations are short, empowering statements. Their purpose is to remind you of something you already know. They re-iterate already residing thoughts that you have and in turn give them the job of giving you extra strength and reassurance. They’re brilliant things actually, it’s a tactic I think you should adopt very soon.

Because affirmations are typically quite short, they’re easy to surround yourself with and remind you. You can write them on post-it notes and scatter them around your home or you could write them out of pretty paper to place on your bedside table so they are among the first things you see in the morning. There’s a lot to be said about the very first few minutes of your day and how important it is to set your goals for the day early on, so having your most important affirmations at your side in the morning could be very helpful indeed. The more you say and actively think about these affirmations, the more like you are to start believing them.

If you don’t like your job, change it. If you don’t like where you live, change it. If you aren’t happy in your relationship, change it. You, and only you, have the ability to change your life at any given time. There is no reason why you shouldn’t be happy with where you in your life, if you aren’t then re-evaluate and decide what steps you need to take to change that.

Another important lesson is to stop feeling sorry for yourself, stop looking at other people and saying “Oh, I wish I had their life” or “It must be so easy for them”. Absolutely everyone has their own trials and tribulations, they’re own battles they’re fighting – as do you. For all you know, someone is looking at you and thinking exactly the same because we all chose what we want to show people, how we want others to see us. Just a little tip – nobody has their shit together, even if their Instagram shows otherwise. So, stop envying others lives and start loving your own. If you don’t love it, change something.

Do you lay sleepless in bed at night and cringe over something embarrassing you did 8 years ago? Yeah, same. Do you throw the blame whole-heartedly on yourself when something goes wrong? Don’t do that. It builds up anxiety and stressed you out and we can’t be having that. It’s important to remember that things go wrong, it doesn’t always go to plan and that’s okay. So, forgive yourself for your mistakes – you’re only human, it happens – and set yourself free.

We have a tendency to be too hard on ourselves so it will pay to remind yourself that you are trying your absolute hardest, which is all anyone can ever ask of you. You can’t do any better than your best, so reward yourself from time to time for your achievements. Give credit where credit is due!

This goes hand in hand with “I have to ability to change my life at any point“. No one has control over your life, you do – it’s your life. There are some things that happen in life that are out of your control, however you do have control over how you react to those things. You just have to accept that certain things happen that throw in some twists and turns along the way, but you have to respect that. Don’t let them break you.

Everyone has a lot going on, you just have to learn when to take a few steps back and allow yourself time to recoup – using this affirmations (or your own, obviously!) daily with help you with so much in life. Either way, the important lesson to take away is that you need to love and look after yourself.
