Little tricks to help combat stress

Stress can so easily take over your entire mindset and make you feel miserable. It’s a killer, it makes you feel bogged down and just generally crappy. I’ve written many a post about it, but stress can have so many undesirable effects on our bodies and overall health – it can cause weight gain, sleep deprivation, spots … all sorts. To try and bust stress, add these tiny tips to your daily routine.

MORNING ROUTINES

Mornings have the power to set the precedent for the rest of the day and I know I blabber on about it all the time but morning routines can literally change your life. It creates stability and clarity so you can start your day in the best mindset possible thus allowing you to deal with stress as healthily as possible.

DECAFFEINATE

Anyone who knows me will be saying that this is incredibly rich coming from me, I honestly think that coffee has become my blood type or something – I live for coffee. However, all that caffeine is not good for us in the slightest. Caffeine increases the production of Cortisol – the stress hormone – which then makes it easier for stress to take over our minds. So, try and have the decaf option more often, your body will thank you!

START YOUR WORKING DAY RIGHT

Create a to-do list of everything you want to get done today – writing goals down makes them harder to dismiss and you’ll more likely get them done. Setting your day out from the start makes it easier for you to schedule your day and map everything out. If you’ve already scheduled your day out minute for minute then you haven’t got time for stress!

RECOGNISE STRESS STIMULI

Try and become familiar with what is a known cause of your stress and when you notice that thing happening, try and take a breaths and relax yourself. Catching stressful situations early gives you more time to prepare to deal with – it’s when it catches you unawares that it becomes difficult to handle.

MIDDAY MOVE

When lunch comes around, make sure you get up and move around. Even if you just get up and walk around the office for a bit. You get a break from the computer and moving around gets your endorphins going which help massively with busting stress.

LEAVE WORK, AT WORK

One of the most common mistakes people make is worrying about work once they get home for the day. How can you expect your body to unwind and relax if you all you can do is worry about how much you have to do the next day? By leaving work at work, your brain has chance to relax a little and gain a bit of clarity so that when you go back to work the next day, you start with a clean slate and will be in a much better position to deal with any stress.
